The Nibelungen Museum Worms
The Nibelungen Museum is not a museum of the traditional kind that collects and displays exhibits. Its concept is based on modern media, and the museum belongs to a long tradition in the interpretation of the Nibelung legend.?
It is itself an example of a “Nibelung creation”, and it provides information on the centuries-old legend, interprets this legend and, with its futuristic architecture, fascinates and inspires its visitors.
The Nibelungen Museum is housed in two magnificent towers on the city wall, which dates back to medieval days of the Staufer dynasty.?
Equipped with a multimedia guide, visitors make their way round the museum as if they were in a walk-in audio book.?
Tours of the museum
In the reception area of the Nibelungen Museum, visitors must first decide which tour to take:
Whether to follow the unknown author of?the Song of the Nibelungs?text (tour in German, English or French)?
Or whether to find out more about Richard Wagner and his life’s work?"The Ring of the Nibelungs"?(tour in German, booklet in English)?
If you find it difficult to choose, then just plan more time for your stay so that you can look at and listen to everything.?

Did you know?
- The Song of the Nibelungs ?is a UNESCO Memory of the Worm document. It was written down arround the year 1200 by an unknown poet.
- This?heroic legend?about the dragon-slayer Siegfried, mighty Brunhild from Iceland and Kriemhild?with her thirst for revenge is set to a large extent in and around Worms.
- In the Nibelungen Museum Worms?you can find out all about the Nibelung legend and its main characters.?
- The voice that you can hear on the media guide belongs to the well-known German actor?Mario Adorf, who helped to establish the Nibelungen Festival in Worms.
- The medieval city wall?of Worms as the original setting?is the ideal place for a journey back in time to an age of kings, myths and magic powers.?
- This is a good place to pause on your walk?to the Rhine Promenade.?Admire the view from the city wall of the Gate Tower Square and see the burial mound that represents Siegfried’s grave and the fountains playing. Access to the towers and the battlement walkway is included in admission to the museum.
